The Department of Primary Education, which was established by the restructuring of Faculty of Education in 2017, consists of two programs: Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education. The undergraduate education period for each of these programs is 4 years. It is aimed that the students of the department will graduate as prospective teachers who adopt contemporary education and training approaches that play an important role in the acquisition of knowledge and skills related to their field by students of the relevant age group. In both programs, theoretical and applied Field Knowledge, Field Education, Vocational Knowledge, General Culture and Elective courses are included. In the first semesters, mainly field knowledge courses, in the following semesters field education and elective courses take place. Vocational Knowledge courses are distributed to all semesters. Teaching Practice courses, whose applications are carried out in schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education, are in the last year of the program. Students who graduate from these programs can teach in private education institutions and in schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education if they get enough points from KPSS. Students who continue their graduate education can work as researchers or lecturers in universities or various institutions. Students who successfully complete all courses for a total of 240 ECTS available in the program and have a General Weighted Grade Point Average (GANO) of 2.0 or above in the 4-point grading system, are entitled to receive a diploma. In addition to undergraduate programs, there are also a professional degree program leading to the master of education and a graduate program leading to the doctor of philosophy offered through the Elementary Education program affiliated by the Graduate Education Institute.
